Advancements in technology and communication have placed new and unique demands and on the job force of the world. Through a mixture of traditional and alternate forms of assessment Global Civis students find themselves better prepared for the challenges of higher education and the work community. From a variety of projects and testing to putting students in “real” world situations Global Civis pushes its classes to think outside of the box and accept new challenges. No two Global Civis teachers will utilize the same forms of assessment but they all are willing to do what it takes to get the best out of our students.

When was the last time your family took a trip? When was the last time you traveled out of the country? Global Civis understands the importance of travel and wants to provide that opportunity to members of our local communities. Working with EF Tours, Global Civis has previously escorted more than 50 high school students on different trips.

EF Tours has been around for more than 40 years helping students travel throughout the world. The company was established in Sweden with the purpose of breaking down barriers of language, culture and geography. For more information on EF Tours please utilize their link. Although EF was established to provide travel for students it is also open to adults. With a small increase in price, adults are provided a private room in addition to all the perks given to student travelers. Past Global Civis trips have included parents and grandparents.

Plans are being made for a student trip to Washington D.C. during spring break 2010. A trip that will include the Nations Capitol, Williamsburg and Bull Run. If you are interested in that trip or have any questions please e-mail Tom Beard at beardt@globalcivis.com.

Global Civis is an "idea" established to create a better understanding how members of the local community can become citizens of the global village. Much like the model established by the ancient Greeks, we ask people to experience different cultures and events by volunteering.

Our hopes are to have students attend community service events as a way to see the world in its entirely not just the local community. Through understanding different socio-economic situations, different cultures and different languages we can work together in creating the bridges that unite all humanity.

These enrichment activities are required of all students in a Global Civis classroom throughout the year. Our students are required to participate in the event, provide proof of their participation, which will vary depending on the teacher, and type/write a single page reflection detailing their experience.
